Woodhey Chapel
Faddiley |
| According to the Cheshire Antiquarian Ormerod "The
village of Faddiley is an assemblege of cottages and farmhouses
about 3 miles west of Nantwich. About 1 mile south east from these
are the remains of Woodhey Chapel in a flat and lonely part of the
country."
Faddiley Hall has been destroyed but left behind is a lovely chapel once attached to the hall. |
How to find it. Travelling on the A534 road between the A49 and Nantwich turn towards Woodhey Hall at Fingerpost Farm.i.e. between the Tollemarche Arms and Hollywell House. Map Ref. 573528 |
| The
chapel as it exists today is still largely the same as when it was
built in 1700. The builder was Lady Wilbraham widow of the last
baronet. She endowed it with £20 p.a. for the minister. According to Calamy, Lady Wilbraham was known as "the pious Lady Wilbraham at Woodhey" |

It has an Elizabethan style loggia with Roman doric columns. The chapel is brick in both English and Flemish bonds |
| It is still largely unchanged and unspoilt. It is covered with good dark oak and is lit by large white candles. It has a polished wood atmosphere and with its simple charm is a lovely survivor in a hidden spot. | ![]() |
