Lower Peover is a beautiful old half timbered church set alongside the Bells of Peover. The church and the pub are very well known in this delightful village setting. How to find
The church is found on the B5081 running between Middlewich and Byley towards Knutsford. This B road joins the A50 Knutsford to Holmes Chapel Road near Toft. Follow the signpost to the Bells of Peover

The church, pub and school are found at the end of a short cobbled road.

History
The earliest record of a church at this site is in 1269 in a document referring to an agreement by the prior of Norton and parishioners that prayers would be said on certain days.
Peover was formerly a chapel of ease to the large parish church at Great Budworth. After the dissolution of the monasteries it came into the hands of the Leicester family of Tabley Hall and remained so until the last member died in 1975. The Victoria University of Manchester acquired the hall which is on the road between the A51, the main Manchester/Chester road and Knutsford. It is open to the public and is well worth a visit.

The building is reputably one of the finest half timbered churches in the county and the main part of the building dates from C14. The tower is C16. Many parts of the interior are C17 and further alterations and restorations were carried out in 1852 by Salvin.

Lower peover church window In the year 2000 the parishioners decided to replace two plain glass windows in the bell tower. It was decided that a new stained glass window would be created depicting life at the millennium.
The church, as it always has done, is changing to met new challenges.
A church is not a museum but a living breathing place of God that moves with the spirit of the Lord and it's congregation.
