St.
Michael
Baddiley |
| Tucked away up a dead end on the back road between
Nantwich and Wrenbury is this church endowed by the Mainwaring
family. It is an ancient and remarkable church with a diversity in it's whole that gives it a gentle charm. |
Take
the quiet country road back road between Nantwich and Wrenbury
which, for part of it's way, twists backward and forwards over the
Shropshire Union Canal. Near Ravensmoor follow the signpost along a
2 mile cul-de-sac to St. Michael's. The trouble to find it is well
worth the effort for it is a delightful and unusual church. It is open during spring and summer on Saturdays. Map ref 605504 |
| The Exterior The church was first mentioned as early as 1308 and was then a half timbered building. In 1811 the nave of the church was replaced with brick and gives a slightly ungainly look to the church. The rear is much smaller and is still the original wood and plaster, the bellcote was also retained |

| The
Interior The highlight of this little church is it's lovely interior. Lit by candles, there is no electricity, the largish nave, divided by the tympanum, marries well with the old timber. |
